Finally some competition from AMD?

Yesterday Intel held their annual investors day, presenting new details on the upcoming Cannonlake architecture. The chip giant is promising a 15% increase in performance over the previous Kaby Lake architecture.

MadeByKier

Today we can show you another build from MadeByKier. In the past we’ve shared several of his beautiful projects and therefore it’s no wonder that his new “Green Machine” is exceptionally good looking again.

Compatible with E-ATX motherboards

During the last CES 2017, Lian Li announced several new products and amongst them was the dual-chambered PC-O11 case. This is basically going to be the bigger brother of the PC-O8 case which they launched a few years ago. After that they’ve released the PC-O9 and the PC-O10, two that were slightly smaller than the PC-O8 but still compatible with high-end hardware. With the new PC-O11, Lian Li offers a case that preserves the proportions of a tower rather than cube chassis.

More game optimisations

Following the launch of AMD’s ReLive 17.1.2 Beta drivers there is already a new WHQL update available. This release is supposed to bring performance improvements to a few games as well as optimizations for Conan Exiles and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands Beta.

February 28th

According to a leak from AMD Shangai's official Taobao channel, AMD's upcoming Zen CPU's might be released on February 28th. At the moment there isn't any precise information which model will hit the market at that point in time. The SKU listed on Taobao channel is set to cost ¥1999.00 which is roughly $295 US. Apart from that a clock speed of 4.2 GHz has been mentioned alongside. Looking at the alleged AMD Ryzen CPUs list, there is no model listed that features these clock speeds.

10% smaller

According to AMD, the upcoming Ryzen core requires 10 percent less space than Kaby Lake cores from Intel although Kaby Lake is already using a refined version of Intel’s 14nm process that was first introduced with Skylake. In theory this should allow AMD to produce Ryzen more cost effective than Intel can manufacture Kaby Lake cores.

Twister Mod

Today we can show you another build from Twister Mod. In the past we’ve shared several of his projects and as you might know they always look exceptionally good.

Expected in August

A few days ago according to a report from CPCHardware, Intel is currently planning to release two new Core i7 and Core i5 processors. Thanks to an update from our friends over at PCGH, both CPUs might belong to the upcoming Kaby Lake-X series. On top of that Intel will also launch their Skylake-X series CPUs during this years Gamescom in August.

Cost effective after 64 layers and more

In the shape of a pilot project Western Digital, who recently bought out Toshiba’s NAND foundries, is starting to ramp up the production of 64 layer 3D NAND flash memory. The new generation of NAND flash memory chips goes by the name BiCS3 and should increase the storage density per chip from 256 Gbit to 512 Gbit.

As a technical experiment

Final Fantasy is one of those game franchises that exist since decades. Square Enix, the developers behind it, simply can’t stop working on new releases. Meanwhile Hajime Tabata, director of Final Fantasy XV has mentioned that an experimental version of the game is running on a system with two GTX 1080 graphics cards.

Affordable Z270 motherboard

The Z270 Gaming Plus from MSI is a mid-end motherboard that comes with basically the essential features. Compared to the Gaming Pro, we see a reworked layout and less connectors. The main difference between this model and any Intel Z270 motherboard is the lack of NVIDIA SLI support.

Right before AMD launches Ryzen

According to a report from CPCHardware, Intel is currently planning to release two new Core i7 and Core i5 processors. These two could be the Core i7-7740K and the Core i5-7640K and Intel might already add those chips to their portfolio next week. Right now, AMD's Ryzen line up is rumored to consist of several R7, R5 and R3 CPUs. The R7 and R5 SKUs are supposed to compete against Intel’s Core i7 and Core i5 chips, while the quad core R3 series should be up against the Core i3 CPUs.

For pro-consumers

It looks like Intel is going to respond to AMD launching their Ryzen CPUs shortly. That response will include a new series of Xeon Gold line CPUs. This announcement comes right after a huge leak on AMD Ryzen CPUs and even according to Intel the upcoming AMD Ryzen R7-1800X CPU has a very good cost/performance ratio in creative and productivity applications.

Within 2017

A few months ago, it was reported that Intel might license AMD's iGPU technology to Intel for integration into its future processors. HardOCP's Kyle Bennet made those rumors appear in May last year reporting that Intel and AMD’s Radeon Technology Group were talking about supplying iGPUs for future Intel CPUs.

TP Custom

Today we can show you a build from one of our Italian readers. Tony, from TP Custom, created a water cooled system based on an Intel Z77 motherboard. Although this it’s been his first time putting a custom loop in place, he did really well.

Quite an armada

The guys over at Coolaler.com have leaked the lineup of upcoming Ryzen CPUs featuring models names and specifications including core/thread count, base frequency and even the nearest Intel competitor. Nevertheless, as for now it remains unknown whether the Intel chips that have been put against the AMD counterparts are supposed to be performance or price competitors.
