Nvidia will not sit idle, preparing new models

Maxwell coming in Q1 2014

According to a report at Videocardz.com and as expected, Nvidia will not sit idle while AMD launches the new Hawaii GPU as it apparently plans to launch more models this year while Maxwell GPU is expected to launch in Q1 2014.

While new models that will launch this year will most likely be rebrands of GK104 and GK106 GPUs as well as entry-level GK208-based models, it is also expected for Nvidia to launch a new high-end model, the Titan Utlra. The Titan Ultra should be based on a fully enabled GK110 GPU or Nvidia could even go for a dual-GPU GTX 790 with two GK110 GPUs. The new Titan Ultra would be a direct answer to AMD's upcoming Hawaii GPU and should fit below US $1000 price range.

In addition to the new graphics cards that should launch this year, Nvidia's Geforce 800 series based on Maxwell GPU should happen sooner than expected, as according to rumors from the report, Nvidia might have it in Q1 2014, or somewhere between February and March. It is most likely that Nvidia will have the GPU ready to show it at Cebit and launch it afterwards. Of course, it all depends on the actual manufacturing process as TSMC will not be ready for mass production on 20nm process before June 2014, so the Maxwell is either not based on 20nm or we'll see more paper-launches from Nvidia.

Nvidia also has some more room for price adjustments so we are sure we'll see those as well as soon as AMD's Hawaii launches or as Nvidia launches its new graphics cards. In any case, it will definitely be an interesting end of year holiday season and we did not expect any less.
