AMD preparing two Polaris GPUs

Both based on 14nm FinFET process

In the recent interview, head of AMD's Radeon Technologies Group (RTG), Raja Koduri, revealed that the company is working on at least two different GPUs based on Polaris architecture.

Revealed in an interview with Venture Beat as the Polaris 10 and Polaris 11, the two GPUs are both based a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process, are extremely power efficient and will bring a very high increase in performance.

According to the interview, both GPUs will be based on GCN 4.0 architecture as well as feature a redesigned front-end, new geometry processors, new multimedia engine and new display controllers, which practically means that we will be looking at a completely new GPU with plenty of new features.

It appears that the Polaris 10 is the smaller size GPU, similar to Cape Verde GPU, and the one that has been demoed before and at CES 2016 show in Las Vegas. The Polaris 11, on the other hand, will probably be the flagship chip that should replace the Fiji GPU.

Unfortunately, AMD is still keeping most of details for itself but hopefully we will hear more about Polaris GPU architecture soon.
