It appears that Nvidia GPUs are a weapon of choice for many gamers, at least judging from the latest Steam Hardware Survey which shows that over 54 percent of all gamers are running on Nvidia GPU, while AMD holds just over 26 percent. This is also the first time that Nvidia graphics card is on top of the chart, with GTX 970 holding just under 5 percent.

While Intel's integrated graphics chip was the king of Steam Hardware Survey for quite some time, it appears that things are shifting in a different direction as majority of users are now running on a dedicated GPU, rather than an integrated graphics chip. The December Steam Hardware Survey also puts Nvidia GPU at the top for the first time in quite a while.

According the Steam December 2015 Hardware Survey, Intel's HD Graphics 4000 is not the most popular GPU on the Steam Survey any longer as that title now goes to Nvidia's Geforce GTX 970 as the most popular graphics card, running on 4.89 percent of Steam systems. Nvidia graphics cards are also holding a majority of share when it comes to Steam gamers with 54.61 percent of gamers on Steam running on Geforce GPU. AMD holds 26.33 percent and Intel has 18.66 percent.

Intel's HD Graphics 4000 has dropped to the second place, while third, fourth and fifth place is reserved for Nvidia Geforce GTX 760, Geforce 750 Ti and the Geforce GTX 960. AMD has a single graphics card series in the top ten and it is the Radeon HD 7900 series.

The Geforce GTX 970 has been the best buy and is selling well for quite some time, despite its 3.5+0.5GB issue seen earlier last year.

The latest Steam Hardware Survey also shows that the 1920x1080 is still preferred resolution with over 35 percent of gamers while 1.28 percent runs on 1440p and only 0.7 percent gaming on 4K/UHD resolution.
