A cooperation between Seagate Technology and Newisys has produced what they called "the industry's fastest flash storage design", which is pretty much a combination of Seagate's SAS SSDs and Newisys server modules in a single 42U rack, providing I/O performance of 1TB/s with 5PB (petabytes) of storage.
According to announced details, the 42U rack server includes 21 Newisys NSS-2601 enclosures, which supports 60 2.5-inch SAS drives and two NSS-HWxEA Storage Server Modules, which can be single- or dual-Xeon E5-2600 v3/4 powered, providing up to 49GB/s of bandwidth per enclosure. The used Seagate 1200.2 SAS SSD is the first 12Gbps SAS device to use dual-channel throughput providing up to 1900MB/s of sequential read performance.
This combination, according to Seagate and Newisys is perfect in applications for processing massive amounts of data, like metadata caches for large data centers, prediction models for financial markets, weather data and other.
It is definitely an impressive system which allows Seagate's 1200.2 12Gbps SAS SSD to show its full performance.
