Sapphire was one of the first AMD AIB partners to show an 8GB version of the Radeon R9 290X graphics card and, today, the company has announced that the new graphics card is shipping to retail/e-tail shelves. The new Sapphire R9 290X 8GB Vapor-X has a decent factory overclock and a recognizable Sapphire graphics card cooler.
On the new Radeon R9 290X 8GB Vapor-X OC Edition, Sapphire has decided to go with its recognizable Vapor-X cooler which should not only provide efficient cooling but also quiet operation, by using a vapor chamber technology placed between the GPU itself and the base of the heatsink. Overall, the Vapor-X system has five heatpipes and three 90mm silent fans. The rest of the components placed on the PCB are also cooled in a passive way and covered by a heatplate.
The new Vapor-X graphics card features a new Digital Power control and a new Aero10 VRM section delivering 10-phase power with high power Direct-FET technology to the GPU, memory and control circuitry. The power section from Sapphire features Black Diamond chokes that ensure reliability and durability.
Sapphire has decided to keep both the GPU and memory clocks at same factory-overclocked values as on the 4GB model, or precisely, 1'030 MHz (in overclock mode) for the GPU and 5.5GHz for the 8GB of GDDR5 memory.
The Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 8GB also comes with two DVI-D, HDMI and a DisplayPort display outputs.
Unfortunately, the price of the Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 8GB version is still unknown but it should not be long before we see it in retail/e-tail.
