Nvidia discontinues most of GTX 700 series lineup

Leaves only the GTX 760 with a price cut

As expected now that the GM204 Maxwell based Geforce GTX 980 and the Geforce GTX 970 graphics cards were launched at US $549 and US $329 price points, Nvidia has announced that it will discontinue most of its higher-end Geforce GTX 700 series, while mid-range will get a price cut, at least until the Geforce GTX 960 officially launches.

The discontinued lineup includes the Geforce GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780 and the Geforce GTX 770. With Geforce GTX 980 launching at US $549 it basically killed the Geforce GTX 780 Ti and the GTX 780 while the Geforce GTX 970, at US $329, practically makes all the sub-$350 graphics cards quite obsolete, including the Geforce GTX 770.

In addition to discontinuing the GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780 and the GTX 770, Nvidia has also dropped the price of the Geforce GTX 760 down to US $219. This was probably a move to clear stock before launching the Geforce GTX 960, which is rumored to be released sometime in October.
