Intel shows luxury wearable called MICA

As smartwatches are so yesterday

During New York Fashion Week, Intel has showed its new fashionable smart bracelet called the My Intelligence Communication Accessory (MICA).

Designed by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of fashion house Opening Ceremony, the MICA is a smart wearable accessory made from water snakeskin and semi-precious gems that integrates 1.5-inch sapphire-glass touchscreen and support for 3G connectivity.

Unfortunately, Intel did not reveal much details regarding the actual specifications of the MICA, but did note that it features Intel XMM6321 3G cellular radio and can display SMS messages, calendar alerts from your smartphones and more.

"The wearables market currently exists in two categories - sports wearables that track performance and wearables that are pretty much a cell phone crammed into a small space," said Aysegul Ildeniz, Intel new devices VP, in a recent interview. "We have to grow the pie collectively. We need to go after audiences not addressed currently by wearables and make them much more aesthetically pleasing."

The Intel MICA probably comes as a result for Intel's acquisition of the wristband maker Basis Science and while Intel is still to reveal any details regarding the price, we doubt it will be anything but cheap when it hits Barneys and Opening Ceremony stores before holiday season.
