Samsung has now officially announced that its own Exynos 5 Octa SoC is actually behind the recently announced Samsung Chromebook 2 notebook.
In case you missed it, Samsung has decided to give the new Chromebook 2 series a bit of a more premium look by dressing the lid in faux-leather with stitched edges, just as we have seen on both the Galaxy Note III smartphone and the Note Pro 12.2 tablet, in addition to specification update, of course. The new Samsung Chromebook 2 is available in two versions, 11.6-inch version with 1366x768 resolution as well as a more premium 13.3 1920x1080 resolution version, both running with the same Exynos 5 Octa SoC.
The Exynos 5 Octa SoC in the new Samsung Chromebook 2 is based on 28nm High-K Metal Gate manufacturing process and big.LITTLE architecture. It features four big ARM Cortex-A15 cores and four smaller ARM Cortex-A7 cores. In the Samsung Chromebook 2 11.6-inch version, the four Cortex-A15 cores will be clocked at 1.9GHz while the smaller Cortex-A7 cores ended up clocked at 1.3GHz. In the Full HD 13.3-inch Chromebook 2 version, the Cortex-A15 cores are clocked at 2.1GHz while the Cortex-A7 cores remained at 1.3GHz.
According to information released back when Samsung Chromebook 2 was officially announced, both versions should be available as of April with a price starting at US $319.99 for the 11.6-inch version and US $399.99 for the 13.3-inch one.
