The LibreOffice suite is a part of OpenOffice.org, developed by the Document Foundation, which is quite well known already and the new version 4.2 is aiming to push harder with the integration in the new Microsoft environments while improving the management of documents created via Office suite.
The OpenOffice version 4.1 has been around for some time and it will be replaced by the version 4.2 officially announced by the Document Foundation.
In addition to usual bug fixes, the version 4.2 brings much better integration of the documents created with Microsoft Offer suite. The Calc engine has been completely redesigned with more performance on large calculations and support for a new optional shell formula, support for parallel CPU and GPU usage for better performance which will make the AMD APU owners a bit more happy.
The UI has been redesigned to take better advantage of the available screen space, even on smaller screens, and the integration with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 has been enhanced with the ability to interact with a simple right click on the icon for the app in the taskbar in order to switch from one document to another or open a document you were working earlier.
A lot of users will certainly appreciate the effort which makes the life much easier for those who are working with both Microsoft Office and LibreOffice as well as switching from one to the other. Those interested in the new version can find the download links here:
