OCZ Storage Solutions, now a part of the Toshiba Group, has announced its first solid state drive under the new company name, the Vertex 460. Designed as that evolution from the Vertex 450, the new Vertex 460 will be available in 120, 240 and 480GB capacities.

The new Vertex 460, as noted by the company, comes as an evolution from 20nm MLC NAND based Vertex 450 and features OCZ's in-house developed Barefoot 3 M10 controller paired up with Toshiba's 19nm MLC NAND memory in order to devlier "a superior but cost-effective solid state storage solution". Designed with a focus on real-world performance, Vertex 460 performance should not deteriorate over time and offer excellent write speeds without any use of synthetic software-based optimization, according to OCZ.

The Vertex 460 offers up to 545MB/s of sequential read and up to 525MB/s of sequential write performance with up to 95,000 4K random and up to 90,000 4K random write IOPS. The sustained 4K random write performance is at up to 23,000 IOPS.

Thanks to the OCZ Barefoot 3 M10 controller, the Vertex 460 features AES-256 encryption and a power-optimized clock in order to deliver perfect compromise between performance and power consumption. It comes backed by a 3-year warranty and rated at 20GB of host writes per day.

As noted, the new Vertex 460 is available in 120, 240 and 480GB capacities, still housed in a recognizable OCZ 7mm casing and comes bundled with 3.5-inch adapter and Acronis True Image cloning software.
