We already wrote a lot about MSI's upcoming GTX 780 Ti Lightning graphics card and judging from latest leaked picture it looks like the new Lightning member is already shipping to eager reviewers. Apparently, MSI will not launch the new GTX 780 Ti Lightning to retail and this one will be limited and shipped only to extreme overclockers.
In case you missed it earlier, MSI scrapped the Nvidia GTX 780 Ti design and started fresh including a completely custom PCB with 16+3+1 VRM with DrMOS 4 and dual 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors. It also included Triple Force architecture which includes Triple Level Signals, an on-board LED strip showing real time load, Pure Digital PWM for precise voltage and control as well as its new TriFrozr cooler with three fans, massive aluminum fin array and high-end black shroud.
We asked MSI regarding the decision not to go to retail with the GTX 780 Ti Lightning and managed to get an official statement :"MSI has decided not to commercialize the GXT 780Ti LIGHTNING and thus there will be no samples other than those provided to select extreme overclockers and there will be no opportunity to purchase the card."
It definitely comes as a surprise and it either have something to do with the fact that Nvidia has implemented rather harsh control over partners and their custom designs or rather the fact that MSI designed the GTX 780 Ti exclusively for extreme overclockers and does not see a point in launching a limited quantity to the channel. Of course, it is close to impossible to confirm either scenario so we will have to stick with MSI's official statement.
In any case, MSI's GTX 780 Ti Lightning will be the cream-of-the-crop when it comes to GTX 780 Ti and some samples will probably end up on eBay in a near future.
