During the CES 2014 press conference, Intel has unveiled their first Quark SOC based platform, the Intel Edison. Introduced back at IDF 2013, the Quark SOC is made on 22nm manufacturing process and represents Intel push into smaller devices.
The Edison is based on a dual-core Quark SoC and currently is just a proof of concept and represents a reference platform for any device including wearable ones. During CES 2014 press conference, Intel demonstrated a collection of products called "Nursery 2.0" where a device based on Intel Edison platform, a toy frog, reports child's vitals to the parents via neat coffee cup.
Intel claims that wearable tech is definitely the next big thing and the only fact that they are not so big right now, is that they really do not solve real problem yet and are not integrated with current lifestyles. To change things, Intel launched the "Make It Wearable" competition for developers by offering up to US $1.3 million in prizes for those that can think of the best use fro the Edison.
Of course, we will definitely see and hear more about Edison as developers hop on board this competition.
