According to the report from VR-Zone, AMD is set to lift the NDA veil from its Radeon R9 270 on November 13th. Based on the Curacao GPU, the R9 270 will be the slowest graphics card in the R9 series and be quite similar to the Radeon HD 7870, just with slightly higher clocks.
The 28nm Curacao GPU is quite similar to the Pitcairn GPU, seen earlier with the Radeon HD 7870, as it packs 1280 stream processors, 80 TMUs and 32 ROPs. According to our earlier info from AIB sources, there have been some improvements to the GPU, hence the new name, but we are still not sure if these are simply efficiency improvements or we will see something else as well.
Although the clocks are not yet confirmed, some R9 270 are clocked at 900MHz while others are set at 950MHz. It also packs 2GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with 256-bit memory interface and clocked at 1400MHz (5600MHz effective).
According to the report over at VR-Zone, R9 270 with reference cooler will only be available to the press for reviews while retail versions will use custom cooling solution. The R9 270 should effectively compete with Nvidia's Geforce GTX 650 Ti Boost and the GTX 660 due to its US $179 suggested launch price.
According to leaked performance details, the R9 270 should be at least 10 to 20 percent faster than the competition, depending on the game or the benchmark that you are looking.
