AMD announces the Gaming Evolved App

AMD had quite a surprise during its GPU 14 event last night in form of AMD Gaming Evolved App that, although a bit late, comes as a direct response to Nvidia's Geforce Experience. Powered by Raptr, the new AMD Gaming Evolved app simply optimizes game settings to give best performance on your current hardware setup.

It is quite surprising that AMD decided to go for a 3rd-party developer but Raptr, led by Dennis Fong aka "Tresh", who you might remember from winning John Carmack's Ferrari 328 during Quake 1 tournament back in 1997, is definitely a good way to go and has a really interesting way of dealing with "optimization" of game titles depending on the hardware setup.

The Gaming Evolved app will allow you to automatically optimize games by a single one-button click and does it by gathering data extensive user data from the AMD community, which should deal with the problem of having extensive variations of hardware setups. When installed, the Gaming Evolved app will scan and automatically add all your games and you can even earn/unlock rewards by simply playing your favorite games.

The app actually monitors the performance in FPS and makes an creates a histogram of performance that it combines with all the results on the cloud. It also features a slider that lets you adjust the balance between performance and image quality.

Currently in beta phase and downloadable at Raptr site, the Gaming Evolved App supports around twenty different games but AMD should get that number up quite soon and we will definitely have to try it out.
