AMD preparing FX-9000 and FX-8770 CPUs

For high-performance market

According to a report from Sweclockers site, AMD might be working on a slight refresh of its Vishera FX-Series based on Piledriver CPU architecture and could launch two new CPUs, the FX-9000 and the FX-8770.

Both new parts will be based on the same 32nm x86 Piledriver architecture but will bring much higher clocks when compared to currently available Vishera FX-8350 flagship that works at 4.0GHz base and 4.2GHz Turbo Core clocks. In case you remember, there has been a couple of rumors before suggesting that AMD might be working on a limited-edition FX-Centurion CPU that would feature some impressively high clocks and the FX-9000 could be exactly that.

In terms of specifications, the FX-9000 still features four Piledriver modules so it is still a octa-core part with 8MB of L2 cache and 8MB of L3 cache but this time around it has a 4.8GHz base and 5.0GHz Turbo Core clocks. It could end up with a 220W TDP, support DDR3-1866MHz memory and fit the current AM3+ socket. Due to its 220W TDP the best guess that it will be bundled with the liquid cooler that we already had a chance to see with AMD.

The FX-8770 is pretty much the same but could end up with slightly lower clocks but same 220W TDP. In any case we will definitely keep an eye out and ear close to the ground for these two.
