LaCie unveils a range of Thunderbolt products

Five different products for Mac and PC

During the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas and just when Intel announced new Thunderbolt controllers including the upcoming Falcon Ridge with transfer speeds of up to 20Gbps per lane, LaCie has announced a couple of upcoming product series with support for Thunderbolt technology.

LaCie claims that it is currently the only manufacturer that has ensured five products in its Thunderbolt series to be compatible with Mac OS X and Windows 7 and 8 computers. The lineup includes Lacied Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt series, d2 USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series, Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series, 2big Thunderbolt Series and eSATA Hub Thunderbolt Series. Lacie also has the 5big Thunderbolt Series but that one is currently only compatible with Mac OS X.

Thunderbolt sounds like a real step forward and while USB 3.0 offers 5Gb/s, Thunderbolt can peak at 10Gb/s (20Gb/s bi-directional), at least on Lacie product series. Unfortunately, Thunderbolt suffers from slow adoption syndrome and currently Apple is the only company that is serious about it.
