Crucial has announced the availability of its M500 line of consumer solid state drives (SSDs) that will be available in 2.5-inch SATA, mSATA and NGFF M.2 form-factors and capacities of up to 480GB for all three form factors and up to 960GB for the 2.5-inch SATA form factor. The M500 SSD series combines a Marvell based controller with Micron 20nm MLC NAND flash chips.
As noted, the Crucial M500 SSD lineup uses Micron 20nm MLC NAND flash combined with Marvell's controller, most likely the 88SS9174 one. The sequential read speeds for the entire lineup will peak at up to 500MB/s while sequential write speeds should hit maximum of 130MB/s and 250MB/s for the 120 and 240GB models. The 480GB and 960GB models will have a write read speeds of up 400MB/s. The random 4k read and write performance on 480 and 960GB models should reach 80k IOPS while 240GB model will peak at 72k for read and 60k IOPS for random write 4k performance.
The entire lineup is backed by three years of warranty, 1.2 millon hours MTTF life expectancy with 72TB total bytes written (TBW) endurance and feature all the usual set of features like SMART, TRIM and NCQ.
The 120, 240, 480 and 960GB are currently priced at US $129.99, $219.99, $399.99, and $599.99, respectively.
