ASRock, Gigabyte and MSI update X399 BIOS

Ready for Threadripper 2

ASRock, Gigabyte, and MSI have started rolling out new BIOS revisions for X399 based motherboards in order to support the upcoming AMD Threadripper 2 or Threadripper 2000-series processors.

According to latest rumors, the second generation of Ryzen Threadripper processors are expected to hit shelves sometime during or right after summer 2018. Since several motherboard manufacturers have updated their motherboards, we believe that the launch of this upcoming CPUs is right behind the corner. If you are interested in picking up one of the new Threadripper 2 processors you will have various options.

AMD this time will offer five models, from 8 cores up to 32 cores. The Threadripper 2000 series will feature the flagship Threadripper 2990X 32c/64t, Threadripper 2970X 24c/48t, Threadripper 2950X 16c/32t, Threadripper 2920X 12c/24t and, Threadripper 2920X 8c/16t processors. All CPUs are based on Zen+ design with 12nm fabrication process. Therefore, the new processors should come with noticeable improvements, such as higher frequencies and lower memory latency.

Furthermore also the TDP will change and we might see few models with up to 250W TDP. In order to keep temperature on a reasonable level, AMD will add a new cooler as well. According to AMD, Threadripper 2 will come with the Asetek bracket that provides compatibility with leading AIO watercoolers. Moreover the company has worked side by side with Cooler Master in order to offer a tower cooler as well.
