Realtek unveils high-end SSD controller

For NVMe drives

Realtek might be known for its onboard audio chips, but a few years ago they tried to push on the SSD market as well. Now, several years later, the company is ready to unveil a SSD controller which aims for the high-end part of the market.

According to latest rumors, Realtek might introduce a couple of controllers in the upcoming months: the RTS5762 and RTS5763DL. Realtek, during the Computex 2018, has unveiled both controllers and they are both promising.

The RTS5762 aims to be "the fastest client PCIe M.2 SSD controller in the world". The company didn't go into too many details, however according to Realtek this controller will support 3D TLC and 3D QLC NAND flash memory. Furthermore it should deliver up to 3'500MB/s of sequential read performance and up to 3'000MB/s of sequential writes. These numbers are pretty interesting since they are very close to Samsung's flagship 970 Pro SSD.

The RTS5763DL should belong to the mid-range or lower-end SSD market. Although it supports AES256 encryption (that's a feature that isn't so common in entry-level range), the performance numbers are rather low.

So far Realtek has not revealed details on the availability of their controllers, but we are sure we will learn more during the upcoming months.
