NVIDIA G-Sync HDR module is expensive

Manufacturer cost up to $500 USD

Adaptive sync technologies like G-Sync and FreeSync are really important for hardcore gamers. While FreeSync is a cheap solution due to its open-source nature, the G-Sync from NVIDIA is a little more complicated. While the current G-Sync module is quite expensive, we might see even more expensive G-Sync HDR display anytime soon.

While the current NVIDIA G-Sync module costs around $200 USD, the upcoming HDR version which will be installed in both the ASUS PG27UQ and Acer Predator X27 monitors will cost a bit more. Both displays cost around $2000 USD, but according to some rumors the G-Sync HDR module will cost up to $500 USD. This is a substantial increase over the standard G-Sync module.

According to a very in-depth review from PCPer, inside the PG27UQ from ASUS there is an Intel Altera Arria 10 GX480 FPGA module paired with 3GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory from Micron. This module is available on several websites for more than thousand of dollars. According some speculations, monitor makers might pay the G-Sync HDR module somewhere close to $500 USD. This cost might explain why this two upcoming monitors are so expensive.
