AMD limiting Raven Ridge APUs updates

Four driver updates a year

Although AMD Ryzen APUs are very interesting chips since they pack a lot of CPU and GPU power, AMD has confirmed that we will see only a bunch of updates during the year. Raven Ridge APUs will only receive up to four driver updates per year, which is a bit disappointing since you will never get updated drivers for latest games around.

According to AMDMatt from OverclockerUK forum, the APU drivers are updated every three months with WHQL releases only. In this way you will get only stable drivers with only few known issues. At the moment we have seen only one update since the release of this series of APUs which confirms the words from the AMD employee. However it's possible that you have to wait up to three months to get updated drivers for some games.

This is a bit disappointing since Ryzen 2200G and 2400G are great chips if you are looking for a budget oriented gaming PCs. The performance of both chips is on a good level and they run on the same platform as Ryzen 7. For example, in our opinion, the Ryzen 3 2200G is the best budget processor at the moment since is fast enough for keeping a solid framerate at 720p and it costs only 85 Euro.
