Valve brings a fix in its survey data collection methods which might have caused a big impact on the AMD figures too. According to Valve, the last few months of data haven't been entirely reliable and we aren't going to do any comparison.
Valve has explained with a note that the data has changed in unexpected ways back in August of last year. It looks like that net cafes are being counted multiple times and that the data wasn't reliable anymore. Valve has fixed now the Steam Survey and from April 2018 the numbers should be reliable.
Checking the GPU results, we see that NVIDIA is dominating the graphics card section. According to the Steam Survey, the first 14 spots are occupied by NVIDIA accelerators. So far the most favorite card is the GeForce GTX 1060 with 12% share. The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti scores 2nd with 8%, the GeForce GTX 1070 holds 6th place with almost 4%, and the GeForce GTX 1080 comes in 8th with 2%. The AMD card that ranks the highest up is the Radeon R7 series with less than 1% share on the 19th spot in the rankings. We are well aware that the AMD market share isn't so great lately, however we find that number still rather low.
Having a look at processors, more than 84% of the users are running a gaming system with an Intel CPU while 16% are on AMD. The graph shows also what type of CPU is the most used. According to the survey, quad-core CPUs are the most common with 62% share, followed by dual-core chips, which score 30% share. Six-core chips have 4% share while eight-core processors hold a mere 1% share in this survey.
