A few weeks ago, ASRock has finally announced its Phantom Gaming graphics cards lineup. The lineup includes four models and all the cards are based on GPUs from AMD's Radeon RX 500 series. Although we were supposed to see this GPUs during this month, AMD is banning this series from the market.
It appears that ASRock's latest Radeon graphics cards will not be sold within the European market anytime soon. Several sources are reporting that the AIB has not been allowed to sell within the region by AMD. This is rather strange, but it's even more weird that ASRock can't sell graphics cards in Taiwan, the company's home region.
In a statement to Tom's Hardware, ASRock has stated that they have been permitted to sell their graphics cards in South America and APEC regions, excluding China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The APEC regions that can be serviced by ASRock include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Peru, Russia and Vietnam.
It's not the first time that some partner or vendor is banned from sale in Europe. For example Colorful or Colorfire are both banned and we have seen a similar situation with Galaxy/Galax and KFA2 in Europe. If you want still buy an ASRock Phantom Gaming GPU you will have to pay customs and international shipping costs. At the moment isn't compeletely clear why ASRock has been banned.
According to some rumors, the reason behind this ban might be linked to the miners. ASRock has promoted this series for mining and we all know that AMD is mostly against this.
