G.Skill breaks DDR4 frequency record on AMD Ryzen

A few days ago the Australian overclocker "Newlife" has achieved a new world record using a G.Skill TridentZ DDR4 memory kit, which is based on Samsung 4Gb ICs. Furthermore an AMD X370 platform has been used in combination with a Ryzen 5 1400 processor.

The record has been achieved using a Gigabyte AORUS AX370-Gaming K7 motherboard (F4 BIOS), G.Skill Trident Z memory and Ryzen 5 1400 processor. In order to reach the 4'079 MHz, the CPU was downclocked to 800 MHz. Apparently in real-life nobody would run it’s CPU at 800 MHz to just push the memory to the maximum. Nevertheless, it’s great to see that it’s possible to push memory beyond the 4GHz barrier on an AMD platform. It certainly adds confidence to the capability of the memory controller that’s onboard AMD’s Ryzen processors. Furthermore it also looks like the latest AGESA updates are really helping in the case of memory overclockability.

Although the AMD Ryzen platform will probably never compete with Intel in terms of raw memory frequencies, it’s clear that AMD is making good progress when it comes to DDR4 clock speeds. Digging a bit more in the actual settings that were used, single-sided 8GB G.SKILL Trident Z E-die sticks were used (F4-3600C17-4GTZ) with 18-20-20-58-93-1 timings.

Hopefully more overclockers are giving these modules a shot and maybe we’re going to see even higher scores very soon.
