Samsung preparing new 960 EVO SSD

Based on the new Polaris controller

According to the new report, Samsung is apparently is putting finishing touches on the new PCIe 960 EVO SSD, which will use Samsung new Polaris controller.

According to details provided by Tomshardware.com, the new Samsung 960 EVO could offer similar performance to the currently available 950 Pro or even higher, but with much lower price. The new 960 EVO should be based on 48-layer 3D-VNAND flash memory and the new Samsung Polaris controller.

The specifications, according to TomsHardware.com, could be similar to the Samsung PM961, coming with the same Polaris controller and 48-layer TLC 3D-VNAND. In case you missed it, the Sasmung PM961 is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities and offer sequential performance of up to 3000MB/s for read and up to 1150MB/s for write with random 4K performance reaching 360,000 IOPS for read and up to 280,000 IOPS for write.

The new Samsung 960 EVO should be available in M.2 2280 and PCIe add-on card form-factors and be based on PCIe 3.0 x4 interface with NVMe support.

Unfortunately, there are no details on when the new 960 EVO lineup will actually launch or any details regarding the price.
