Drobo has announced its newest Drobo 5D Turbo (5Dt) 5-bay Direct Attached Storage (DAS) device which is an upgraded Drobo 5D DAS aimed at creative power users with its high-speed Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 ports.
Featuring two Thunderbolt 2 ports, which has support for daisy-chaining, including 4K displays (on Mac OS X) and one USB 3.0 port,
the new Drobo 5D Turbo is pretty much the Drobo 5D DAS on steroids, providing further better performance.
It features support for 4K Thunderbolt displays, includes an mSATA card for increased performance of up to 30 percent on streaming video and up to 3x read performance due to Drobo's Hot Data Caching software feature which keeps a copy of most frequently accessed data.
Specification wise, the Drobo 5D Turbo is a 5-bay DAS with support for up to five 3.5-inch SATA 6Gbps HDDs or SSDs, support for one mSATA SSD in the Accelerator Bay, BeyondRAID support with Thin Provisioning, Instant Expansion, Mixed Drive Size Utilization, Automatic Protection Levels, Single – or Dual-Disk Redundancy, Virtual Hot Spare, Data Aware and Drive Re-ordering features.
The Drobo 5D Turbo is also backed by a 3-Year DroboCare coverage, which is an advanced level of warranty. According to Drobo, the new 5D Turbo DAS should be available as of today with an MSRP of US $899.
