More AMD Zen details revealed, coming this year

CEO Lisa Su officially reveals more details

Although we already seen a lot of details regarding AMD's upcoming Zen architecture, we now have a bit more details which were revealed by AMD CEO, Lisa Su, during the quarterly financial report.

According to revealed details, it appears that Zen-based processors will be available this year as AMD is currently in talk with PC makers that should make systems based on Summit Ridge processors, which should launch in late 2016. In case you missed it earlier, upcoming Summit Ridge processors are based on Zen architecture and should be released under the FX-series brand and bring support for DDR4 memory.

AMD plans to release server chips based on Zen architecture in early 2017 but unfortunately, AMD did not reveal any official details regarding Zen-based APUs or notebook chips for that matter.

AMD CEO, Lisa Su, also revealed a bit more details regarding the actual performance, saying that AMD Zen-based CPUs should provide 40 percent higher instructions per cycle (IPC) compared to current Excavator CPU architecture, and the upcoming Summit Ridge should mark AMD's "re-entry" in the high performance desktop market.

Lisa Su also said that the chip has already met internal expectations and has no significant bottlenecks, which si definitely great news for AMD as it puts a lot of faith in its upcoming Zen architecture.
