Intel has announced that its 6th generation Skylake Core vPro CPUs are now available for purchase and will include a new security technology called Intel Authenticate.
Since security is a big feature in the enterprise market, it does not come as a surprise that Intel is aiming to improve its security features embedded in the chip and it has now introduced the new Intel Authenticate technology that will be only available in Intel's 6th generation Core Skylake vPro CPUs.
The new Intel Authenticate will combine several authentication factors into a single login, making things easier for the end user. The Authenticate combines three different things, including "something you know", like or example a PIN or a password with "something you have", like a smartphone or any other device and "something you are", which represents biometrics, like fingerprint. All of these things, when configured, are captured, encrypted and stored in the chip.
Since all of the authentication is done at the hardware level, leaves less room for the lack of security and should be quite good since everything is done on the CPU. Intel will probably push its new RealSense 3D camera systems for biometrics.
The new Intel Authenticate will be available only on Intel Skylake Core vPro CPUs and available on Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 OS, despite earlier announcements from Microsoft that Skylake will only have support on Windows 10 OS.
Systems based on Intel's 6th generation Skylake Core vPro CPUs should be soon available from all major OEMs including are Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Toshiba and others.
