AMD has revealed its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2015, announcing revenue of US $958 million which is down by 22.7 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
While the revenue in the Q4 2015 did drop, AMD managed to lower its losses compared to both the last quarter and the same quarter last year, reporting an operating loss of US $49 million and a net loss of US $102 million.
The reported revenue of US $958 million is down 10 percent compared to the last quarter and down 22.7 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Gross margin increased to 30 percent due to last quarter US $65 million inventory write-down but it was down 6 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
AMD's Computing and Graphics segment took the biggest hit and its revenue of US $470 milion was down by 29 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The hit came due to lower client processor sales but due to higher average price of graphics cards, the company had a lower US $99 operating loss.
The Enterprise, Embedded, and Semi-Custom segment reported a revenue of US $48 million, which is a 15 percent drop compared to the same quarter last year.
The announced Q4 2015 financial results mark a closing point for a rather tough year for AMD, reporting a full year revenue of US $3.99 billion, which is down by 28 percent compared to the last year. It reported a loss of US $481 million which is significantly higher compared to the US $155 million loss in 2014.
This year should be big for AMD and both Zen CPU architecture as well as its Polaris GPU architecture promises great things for the company and should significantly help the company.
Unfortunately, none of these will come in the next quarter so the company is expecting a 14 percent decrease in revenue in the next quarter.
