AMD has now officially confirmed that both the new High Bandwidth Memory as well as the well known GDDR5 memory will be used with the upcoming Polaris GPU.
While rumored earlier, Robert Hallock, Technical Marketing Lead at AMD has now confirmed that the upcoming Polaris GPU will be able to use both High Bandwidth Memory (HBM and HBM2) as well as the GDDR5 (GDDR5X) memory.
According to Hallock, "AMD has the flexibility to use HBM or GDDR5 as cost require," which means that the company can adjust both the performance and the price by either using GDDR5/GDDR5X or HMB/HBM2 memory.
According to the report, AMD might use GDDR5 on its mid-range graphics card, with price under US $350, while high-end offer, over $400, will end up using HBM and HBM2 memory.
