Dell shows a 30-inch 4K OLED monitor at CES 2016

The UltraSharp UP3017Q

While it does not produce its own panels, Dell is just one of those companies that usually come up with a world's first when it comes to monitors, and at CES 2016 show in Las Vegas, the company has unveiled its new Dell UltraSharp UP3017Q, a 30-inch 4K OLED monitor.

Featuring a 30-inch diagonal 3840x2160 4K/UHD OLED panel, the new Dell UP3017Q can reproduce 1.07 billion colors and covers 100% Adobe RGB color space and 97.8% of DCI-P3 color space. The rest of the specifications include a 0.1ms response time and 400,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio while the precise refresh rate is still unknown.

The design has a very narrow bezels, making it quite an impressive monitor and it also comes with a mini DisplayPort, an HDMI and a USB Type-C port, which can also be used to power a monitor.

In order to deal with the drawbacks of an OLED panel, which tends to burn down over time and experience a color shift, Dell had to integrate a special sensor at the front of the screen which switches the screen off when it detects that the monitor is not used or that there is no one in front of it, as well as a special pixel-shifting technology.

Due to the OLED panel, which should provide the best "black" on the market, high contrast ratio and exceptional color reproduction, Dell's new UltraSharp UP3017Q will have a rather steep US $4,999 price tag when it launches on March 31.
