Some AMD AIB partners have already prepared 4GB versions of the Radeon R9 390 graphics card which was previously available only with 8GB of VRAM.
Based on the 28nm Grenada Pro GPU, which is a revised version of the Hawaii Pro GPU, the Radeon R9 390 packs 2560 Stream Processors, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs and a 512-bit memory interface. Usually, these ended up with a 1000MHz GPU clock while 8GB of GDDR5 memory ended up working at 1500MHz (6.0GHz).
While 8GB version of the Radeon R9 390 was already competitively priced at around US $329, the 4GB version could put a lot more pressure on Nvidia's high-end lineup with the US $299 or even lower price, putting it in the same range as the Geforce GTX 970. Although the 4GB version of the Radeon R9 390 ends up similar to the earlier available Radeon R9 290, higher clocks allow it to be about 10 percent faster.
Expreview.com managed to get a few pictures from AMD AIB partners like Sapphire, Powercolor and XFX but unfortunately, all of these have been spotted in China. Some sources suggest that AMD will limit R9 390 4GB availability to China market only.
Hopefully, AMD will change its mind and we will see 4GB version of the Radeon R9 390 in European and the US market soon as it would be a great buy for Christmas shopping season.
