AMD won't stop selling the Radeon R9 Fury X

Jury decision does not involve Radeon R9 Fury X

AMD has issued a response to Asetek's earlier cease and desist request to stop sales of Radoen R9 Fury X graphics cards which use the same liquid cooler made by Cooler Master.

As you probably already know, Asetek has previously sued Cooler Master and won injunction against Cooler Master for its patented liquid cooling pump/block design, which is pretty much what AMD is using on its Radeon R9 Fury X graphics cards. Asetek has recently sent out a cease and desist letter to AMD and Gigabyte, demanding that these companies stop selling the Radeon R9 Fury X and GTX 980 Waterforce graphics cards as they infringe the same patents due to the use of Cooler Master liquid cooling solution.

AMD has issued a statement saying that the jury in the Asetek case against Cooler Master does not specifically mentions the cooling solution used on the Radeon R9 Fury X graphics card and thus that same graphics card or, precisely, the liquid cooler used on it, does not infringe any of Asetek's patents.

Quote:
"We are aware that Asetek has sued Cooler Master. While we defer to Cooler Master regarding the details of the litigation, we understand that the jury in that case did not find that the Cooler Master heat sink currently used with the Radeon Fury X infringed any of Asetek's patents."

Although the liquid cooler on the Radoen R9 Fury X might be quite similar to the Cooler Master liquid cooler that Asetek won injunction against, the case did not specify the R9 Fury X specifically.

AMD did not say if it will stop selling the Radeon R9 Fury X, but as far as we can guess from this statement posted at GamersNexus.net, we doubt that this will happen as AMD have convincing legal arguments to keep on selling the Radeon R9 Fury X, at least for now.
