Qualcomm has been teasing the next-generation Snapdragon 820 SoC for quite some time and now the company was ready to talk a bit more about it, saying that it will be available in over 60 devices in 2016.
In case you missed it earlier, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 is based on 14nm FinFET manufacturing process, packs four cores based on Qualcomm's new custom 64-bit Kryo CPU cores paired up with the updated Adreno 530 GPU. Qualcomm also noted that the SoC will be paired up with Qualcomm's Zeroth, a "neural processing platform", or simply a dedicated chip for deep-learning as well as Hexagon 680 DSP, Spectra ISP and the new X12 LTE modem.
Big part of the earlier held Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 event was about overheating issues, seen earlier with the Snapdragon 810 SoC. According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 820 SoC will be up to 30 percent more efficient, and with other optimizations, Qualcomm promises we will see no overheating issues.
Although there were no precise details, Qualcomm promises that the Snapdragon 820 SoC will be in over 60 devices, including smartphones, tablets as well as other devices like cameras, cars, VR and drones in 2016.
Qualcomm made plenty of promises regarding the new flagship Snapdragon 820 SoC and hopefully at least some of those will be true once it starts shipping it in first devices next year.
