The big part of Apple's yesterday event was reserved for the new Apple TV, which got some hardware improvements, new Apple TV Remote and better Siri but still lacks 4K support.
While Apple has updated its Apple TV device with the Apple A8 SoC and 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, it still did not include support for 4K, something that is quite surprising. Measuring at 98x98x33mm and weighing in at 425g, the new Apple TV, also got the new tvOS, with new apps and games, has HDMI 1.4 1080p60 output, 802x11ac 2x2 WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB Type-C port and 10/100 Ethernet.
The biggest update, in addition to the hardware, is a completely new interface, which looks a bit more modern and in line with recent updates to iOS, OS X and Watch OS. The new tvOS can be navigated via new Siri, which can do a lot more than the Siri on the iPhone. It can deal with specific commands and searches, such as finding a movie with specific actors and more as well as control playback.
The second way of going through the new tvOS is via the new Apple TV Remote. While still keeping it simple, Apple has now integrated glass multi-touch surface on the top and a dedicated Siri button. It recharges via lightning port at the bottom and has a battery life that could keep it alive for months, according to Apple. It also comes with integrated accelerometer as well as a gyroscope, which will come in handy in games.
Apple TV should be available in late October with a price set at US $149 for the 32GB model and US $199 for the 64GB model.
