Starting its first wave of restructuring within the company, AMD has officially announced the Radeon Technologies Group, a new dedicated graphics division which will be led by Raja Koduri.
A well known guy in graphics industry, Raja Koduri is a veteran from ATI days and has been brought back to AMD in 2013, after working at Apple. He is now promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Architect of Radeon Technologies group.
Back in the glory days, AMD had two dedicated divisions or units, one for CPUs and one for GPUs. During later restructuring, AMD merged some divisions creating Computing and Graphics group and added Embedded, Enterprise and Semi-custom group as a separate group.
Today,
AMD is pretty much going back to its roots with the creation of the Radeon Technologies Group, a business group dedicated to graphics. The Radeon Technologies Group became an autonomous graphics division which will be led by a great man and hopefully we will see some positive results from such restructuring.
Raja Koduri will report directly to AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su. The Enterprise Embedded and Semi-custom group will be led by Forrest Norrod, while Computing and Graphics Group, which will probably be renamed later, will be led by Jim Anderson.
This puts AMD in a much better position with focus on certain markets and it is possible that we will see even more restructuring and similar moves.
