It appears that upcoming Fiji XT-based high-end graphics card could end up with a much smaller PCB compared to the Radeon R9 290X one.
According to
a report from Fudzilla.com, the PCB of the upcoming Fiji XT GPU based graphics card could end up significantly shorter compared to the 280-300mm long PCB on the Radeon R9 290X graphics card.
The main reason sits with High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) since the GPU sits on a piece of silicon called the interposer and is surrounded by HBM chips, while Radeon R9 290X needed room for eight to sixteen GDDR5 memory chips on the front and the back of the PCB.
This allowed engineers to create a much shorter PCB for the upcoming Fiji XT graphics card but unfortunately, precise dimensions are still unknown. This also means that AIB partners will have to come up with a way to cool such graphics cards as the cooler will probably end up to be significantly larger than the PCB.
According to the same report, AMD currently plans to announce the Fiji XT based graphics card in June, but not at Computex 2015 show. Apparently, it will launch it during E3 2015 show held in Los Angeles just a few days after the Computex show.
