According to the latest report, there have been a total of 4.6 million wearables shipped in 2014 while Android Wear was only on 720,000 shipped devices.
According to the newest report from analyst company Canalys, while the 4.6 million devices does sound much, the expected boom is expected with the launch of the Apple Watch. According to the same report, Motorola was the leader in Android Wear lineup despite problems with constrained supply in Q4. LG's G Watch R did much better than the original G Watch and both ASUS and Sony have been doing good with their own smartwatch designs.
Pebble, one of the first smartwatches on the market managed to ship a total of 1 million units from its launch in 2013 up to 2014. Samsung on the other hand launched a total of six different devices and is currently leading in the smart band market.
Xiaomi also did well with its Mi Band, which was affordable and managed to ship over a million units.
While wearables market is definitely the new big thing, the focus is now on Apple, which should drive the market forward once its Apple Watch finally hits the market.
