Ubisoft's new big titles coming back to Steam

Assassin Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 and The Crew

Last week, Ubisoft withdraw its upcoming titles from the Steam catalog, including Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 and The Crew, making them available only via uPlay. During this weekend, these same titles reappeared discreetly on Steam.

Today, in order to buy a game, the simplest and most common method is to go through Valve's Steam platform. It seems that Ubisoft does not really agree with that and would rather go through its own uPlay service, so it has attempted to remove some of its newest and upcoming games from Steam, in order to make them exclusive for uPlay, something that Eletronic Arts did with its Battlefield series and Origin.

This test was short-lived, as four days after these same titles are back on Steam. It might be that Ubisoft understood that they will not sell enough copies without Steam, since some gamers have announced that they would overlook these games as they do not want to use uPlay. Or was it Steam which has renegotiated their contract?

In the meantime, gamers can again pre-order these games on Steam. Don Gabe Newell and Steam have a tight grip on the video game market and it is something that publishers simply have to accept.
