AMD is definitely feeling an impact from Nvidia's recently launched GM204 Maxwell based Geforce GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards. While it might not have any new Radeon graphics cards to compete with these new Maxwell-based graphics cards from Nvidia, AMD has now cut the price of its Radeon R9 290 and Radeon R9 290X graphics cards.
According to the report from
Wccftech.com, the Radeon R9 290 has dropped from US $399 down to US $299 while a more interesting and powerful R9 290X was dropped US $549 down to US $399, making it one of the more interesting high-end graphics card on the market.
AMD has also cut the price of some of its mid-range graphics cards so Radeon R9 285 dropped down to US $229 while the Radeon R9 280X sells for around US $269.
While this is only a temporary solution for AMD, it should be enough to keep AMD in the game until the R9 300 series come. There is still a question about the R9 285X Tonga XT based graphics card but that one should be a direct competitor to Nvidia's upcoming GTX 960 graphics card at around US $249.
The new prices are effective immediately and both Newegg.com and Amazon.com have adjusted their prices accordingly while the rest of retailers/e-tailers should follow soon.
