Intel issues second-quarter results report

Record quarter with revenue of US $13.8 billion

Intel has issued its Q2 2014 results and reported a record quarter, mostly thanks to strong PC sales, beating all previous predictions.

According to Intel's Q2 report, the company revenue for the second-quarter was US $13.8 with operating income of US $3.8 billion and net income of US $2.8 billion with EPS (Earnings Per Share) of US $0.55. While Wall Street predicted Intel earnings at US $0.52, the company managed to report a slight increase, mostly thanks to the PC Client Group which managed to gather a huge US $8.7 billion in revenue, setting a new quarterly record.

The revenue actually increased from US $12.8 billion last quarter, which is the same number we have seen in the same quarter last year, to US $13.8 billion, which is an 8 percent increase. The net revenue and EPS rose from US $1.9 billion and US $0.38 up to US $2.8 billion and US $0.55 when compared to the Q1 2014, which is a 45 percent increase.

Intel reported rise of revenue across mostly all its company groups with PC Client Group revenue of US $8.7 billion, up 9 percent sequentially, Data Center Group revenue of US $3.5 billion, up 14 percent sequentially and Internet of Things Group revenue of US $539 million, up 12 percent sequentially. The only groups that have seen a drop in revenue are Mobile and Communications Group, which reported revenue of US $51 million which is a drop of 67 percent and Software and Services operating segment, which reported revenue of US $548 million, a drop of 1 percent sequentially.

"Our second-quarter results showed the strength of our strategy to extend the reach of Intel technology from the data center to PCs to the Internet of Things," said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. "With the ramp of our Baytrail SoC family, we have expanded into new segments such as Chrome-based systems, and we are on track to meet our 40 million unit tablet goal. In addition, we hit an important qualification milestone for our upcoming 14 nm Broadwell product, and expect the first systems to be on shelves during the holidays."

Intel expects that the Q3 2014 will be even better with revenue of US $14.4 billion.
