According to the report coming from Digitimes.com, we might be on the verge of SSD price wars as Micron Technology has reportedly reduced supplies of NAND flash chips to other manufacturers.
Although this move from Micron Technology comes as a result of the company plan to double the shipments of Crucial-branded SSDs, which is Micron's own channel brand. Similar to Micron, Kingston Digital has also ramped up its SSD shipments to 600,000 units per month in order to put more pressure on SanDisk and Samsung.
The SSD market will most likely see a decent boost with the introduction of the M.2 standard with Intel's 9-series chipsets, which brings 10Gbps interface bandwidth.
In any case, price wars are always good for consumers as we will see lower prices so in case you are shopping for an SSD, you might want to wait for Kingston and Crucial to flood the market.
