Futuremark launches Sky Diver 3DMark benchmark

For gaming notebooks and mid-range PCs

While Futuremark has already announced the new Sky Diver benchmark for 3DMark and showed it back at Computex, the new benchmark is now available for download as a free update.

The Sky Diver is a DirectX 11 benchmark test aimed to be used with gaming notebooks as well as mid-range PCs which usually use mainstream graphics cards, mobile GPUs or even integrated graphics and can't achieve double-digit frame rates in the Fire Strike test.

According to Futuremark, the Sky Diver is more like a DirectX 11 game running on normal settings while Fire Strike benchmark can be compared to a modern DirectX 11 game running on ultra-high settings. Of course, scores between these two benchmarks are not directly comparable due to difference in tests.

The Sky Diver benchmark includes a demo, two graphics tests with focus on tessellation and pixel processing, a physics test, which measures the CPU performance and a combined tests which stresses both the GPU and the CPU at the same time giving and overall performance score for the complete system.

As noted, the new 3DMark Sky Diver benchmark test will be available as a free download with 3DMark v1.3.708 version. Futuremark also noted that it is currently running a limited time offer which puts 3DMark Advanced Edition on Steam for only US $9.99 (60 percent off).
