According to a report at Digitimes.com, AMD plans to fully phase out FM1 and AM3 socket CPUs by 2014.
The replacement will not happen over night as AMD will gradually phase them out starting with April. The FM1-based CPUs will officially end their reign in the third quarter while AM3-based CPUs should be completely phased out by the end of this year.
In 2014, AMD's high-end lineup will use AM3+ socket while mainstream will end up with FM2 socket. The AMD AM3+ socket will bring AMD HyperTransport 3.1 and support for DDR3-2133 memory. Currently AMD has quite a few AM3+ FX-series CPUs on the market including, octa-core FX-8350/8320 CPUs, six-core FX-6350/6300 as well as three quad-cores, the FX-4350/4300/4130.
There are a couple of FM2 sockets on the market as well and AMD plans to bring some price cuts of around US $14 to US $20 to the entire AM3+ based lineup as well as up to US $10 price cut for its latest FM2 based CPUs.
