In the beginning AMD announced that the watercooled version of the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition was supposed to become available during the third quarter of 2017. So far it looks like that this is actually the case since, it appears that in North America those cards can now be ordered.



Compared to the aircooled variant the TDP of the watercooled SKU is significantly higher, due to increased clock speeds. Therefore the watercooled Radeon Vega Frontier Edition operates closer to the advertised maximum clock speeds of 1600MHz than the aircooled card.

Having a look at the pricing over at sabrepc in the US the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition with aircooler currently costs $1000 US, while the watercooled card costs a whopping 49% more - $1499 US. What a customer has to pay extra to get, what’s currently the fastest pro-sumer card, is quite juicy to say the least. For apparent reasons we - and we’d assume also interested buyers - are hoping to see the prices drop.

Apart from that we’re pretty sure that during the upcoming days some more test results are going to surface, presenting gaming performance as well as rendering performance in professional applications, which could allow for possible conclusion regarding the gaming performance of upcoming Radeon RX Vega cards. These numbers and the corresponding implications will certainly be interesting to see/read and interpret but they’ll definitely have to be taken with a grain of salt.
