Some GTX 1080 review samples have higher clocks?

Higher than retail graphics cards

It appears that both MSI and ASUS (at least for now), have been sending review samples of GTX 1080 graphics cards that are actually clocked higher than those that can be found in retail.

According to a report from Techpowerup.com, the MSI factory-overclocked Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming X that was reviewed by the site earlier had three software-defined clock speed profiles, Gaming, OC and Silent mode.

The OC mode, which pushes the card to 1708MHz for the GPU base and 1847MHz for the GPU boost, which is not the case for a retail graphics card, since the OC mode is not enabled as on review samples.

The same thing was noticed on ASUS GTX 1080 Strix graphics card which works at 1785MHz for review samples and 1759MHz when you pick it up from retail shelf.

While this is not a big difference, it might seem to some buyers that they are not getting the same graphics card seen in reviews. The issue, which is not that big as you simply need to install the software and enable the OC mode, could happen on GTX 1070 graphics cards as well but that is left to be seen.
