Microsoft still in the lead

Microsoft is pushing hard on the OS market, while the Windows XP reached end of support, Apple is always developing new devices and systems. All this informations are provided by NetMarketShare, a website that analyzes operating systems and their circulation.

NetMarketShare's analysis is based on PCs connected to the Internet, and the website is able to detect what OS you are using through your browser. It is not the most accurate way to collect this kind of data, but it can give you a general idea of the trends.

Based on what NetMarketShare says, Windows 7 is still growing, and it holds more than 50 percent of the market. The Windows XP is second in line, with a 4% drop since it reached end of support. Windows 8/8.1 comes third, with 8.1 finally overtaking its predecessor, 7 months after the official release.

As far as Apple is concerned, the Mac OS X 10.9 is the only OS on the chart, but we are pretty sure that Apple's market share is far bigger. Unfortunately, a great number of user is not interested in paying to get the new OS, or their system is not compatible with it. In any case, Microsoft is definitely in the lead, with Windows 7 becoming the new Windows XP. Apple is second just in front of Linux, which comes third.
