Thalmic Labs show muscle activity controller

The Thalmic Labs Myo

Ever since the announcement of Oculus Rift VR headset, developer have trying to free themselves from constrains of the classic keyboard/mouse controll and recent vision from Thalmic Labs, called the Myo, might be the thing that we have been waiting for.

The motion capture already exists on PC with Kinect, PrioVR and other less known projects. The Thalmic Labs has taken a slightly different approach with a controller which translates muscle movements to computer commands.

The small bracelet will definitely find usefulness in many other areas and not just in the world of video games as it can easily run a slide during a presentation, rewind or fast forward a video or even be connected to various other mobile devices in order to add more features and simplify their use. The couple of videos below will show you what can be done with the new Myo while the second one focuses solely on video games.

The Myo from Thalmic Labs is already available for pre-order with a price of US $149 for single, or US $300 for two units. The price might sounds a bit too steep but it actually depends for what you would use it. The availability and delivery for pre-orders is expected in mid-2014.
