SiSoft Sandra database reveals Coffee Lake scores

To be announced in August?

It looks like AMD is really making Intel all nervous, so nervous in fact that there are already benchmarking values of what seems to be an early Coffee Lake sample appearing. The great thing about Coffee Lake is the fact, that it will bring six cores to the mainstream market.

Apparently the rumor mills are already going crazy when it comes to Coffee Lake and there are even alleged details on the die-size around. The new 6-core die should measure 149mm2, which is 23mm2 more than the quad-core counterparts.

Apart from that Coffee Lake is supposed to launch alongside a new Z370 chipset. That would mean that Kaby Lake would be replaced after only eight months on the market. Therefore it would be one of Intel’s CPU generations with the shortest life-cycle. If Intel really is to launch a new mainstream platform in August that would mean they’d possibly ruin a lot of trust from customers who just bought a Kaby Lake and Z270 based system. A new chipset also means that most likely Coffee Lake will require a new socket, which could leave current Z270/Kaby Lake customers even more upset.

On the other hand it’s a good thing to see that Intel appears to be finally stepping up the game again and bringing new chips to the market that actually offer more than just a performance bump which is in the low single digit percentages.

According to the SiSoft Sandra database the new chip from Intel clocks with 3.1GHz base and 4.2GHz boost clock. Apart from that there are 12MB of L3 cache, which translates into 2MB per core. It’s also to be expected that Coffee Lake will feature 14nm transistors.
